In 2019 a team of students from my school are going to Borneo to do volunteering work- including building schools, teaching English, planting trees and visiting an orangutan sanctuary. Half of the world's timber comes from Borneo and the rainforest in Borneo is one of the oldest in the world (estimated around 130 million years old). Borneo is also one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, with over 1500 different plant species.
There is currently around 5 of us going on the trip from my school (from years 9-12) and I'm very excited to be one of them. As someone who has always had a desire to travel, this is something I am extremely proud to be doing. The journey to Borneo is no doubt going to be tough (raising £4050 as a 16 year old has its difficulties) but I have no doubt that the work we do in Borneo will better the lives of the local community.
Welcome to my journey to Borneo!
